In
1948, the last of the families large houses (East
Court) (In which my Great Aunt Olive Bubb lived
) was sold, and the contents sold by auction. The
sale last 5 days, and included large quantities
of china, and silver, also a great amount of beautiful
Italian furniture acquired by Henry Bubb and his
wife when they owned The
Villa Porticciolo at Rappallo in Italy or click
here to see a picture if the previous link does
not work.
Between
1908 and his death in 1930 Henry and his family
spent considerable time in this beautifull house.
It was surrounded by superb gardens. My sister and
I have two oil paintings of the gardens which we
inherited from our parents. The House and Gardens
are now owned by the town of Rappollo, and I believe
the house is now a museum from what I can understand.
Here
are a few pages from The Sale Catalogue of East
Court, reproduced by kind permission
of Bruton Knowles Auctioneers,Of Gloucester.
As
a point of interest I am advised that Arthur Negus,
the well known antique expert who appears in the
British TV Show "The Antiques Road Show" had joined
Bruton Knowles the previous year, and this auction
was his first Antique Auction ! So perhaps it had
a considerable influence on him !
