this very old
photograph is of an old and damaged painting of William
Bubb (Mercer) twice Sheriff of Gloucester. Who died on
the 4th October 1627. There is a monument in St Michael
Church at Gloucester in his memory. William as one of
The Kings Sheriff's, would have been at the center of
history in this part of the world.
He was the
son of Thomas Bubb & Katherine Frypps of Little Witcombe
and one of ten children..
I wonder what
happened to this picture ? Perhaps its in a museum some
where, or in a private collection. If you know where it
is, please let me know.
Now, it seems
to me quite extraordinary that today, some 350 years later,
there is still a strong family resemblance between this
gentleman, and my father and grandfather.
Is this normal
? Even only a few years ago, I had an e-mail from a lady
from a Bubb family in USA, who having seen my picture,
said how alike I was to her Uncle, who lived also in USA,
and whose family originally came from the Cheltenham.
